If you suffer from anxiety, but you’re not into pill popping — nor smoking weed — there’s still CBD. Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a non-psychotropic cannabis compound that can help alleviate ailments like pain, inflammation, seizures, depression, and anxiety.
To ease your nerves, you can now pop some CBD chocolates made by the aptly named brand Not Pot. The heart-shaped chocolates are comprised of CBD-rich hemp oil, raw cacao, maple sugar, and an ayurvedic stress-relieving herb called ashwagandha.
“Chill (no) Pill,” the brand writes on its website. “Treat yourself to a Not Pot chocolate heart (extra credit for a bubble bath), and let the chill vibes take over.”
While the effects of popping one of the chocolate hearts into your mouth are still a far cry from popping a Xanax, the idea is that over time, regular consumption of CBD will have a cumulative, long term effect — akin to taking a vitamin every day.
Each of the chocolate hearts contains just two milligrams of CBD, which is a pretty light dose. For reference, high-CBD medications children with epilepsy take contain around or at least 25 milligrams of CBD. In fact, while the recommended dose is one heart per day, you may need to take a few more since the dose is, after all, so low. Each container is full of 30 chocolate hearts, about a month’s supply, for $30.
And because the chocolate hearts don’t contain any THC, you don’t need a medical marijuana card to buy them. You can even order them online (though the legality of selling CBD more broadly is still up for debate).
While the chocolates won’t get you high, they’ll still elevate your mood. Raw cacao contains antioxidants, which can increase your body’s endorphin and serotonin levels, while the low-glycemic maple sugar won’t cause you to crash from a sugar high. Meanwhile, ashwagandha is a powerful herb commonly used to relieve stress and fatigue, while boosting focus and energy.
So whether you want a small daily dose of wellness, or you just have a sweet tooth, these heart chocolates may be a good afternoon pick-me-up regardless of what you’re looking for.
