California marijuana smokers are embracing the vape life. The sales of vape-ready marijuana cartridges increased 400 percent from 2015 to 2016, according to the annual State of Cannabis report from weed delivery service Eaze.
In other words, vaping is no longer limited to bros and billowing clouds of sweet flavored tobacco smoke. Out with the pipes and wraps, in with the handheld electronics. The vapes mean big business for vaporizer cartridges, which Eaze defines as “pre-fill disposable cartridges with concentrates which can then be vaporized with a variety of battery powered devices.”
Eaze, which Business Insider dubs “the Uber for weed,” used data from 250,000 users and 5,000 customer interviews. It only operates in California, and doesn’t have any brick and mortar store fronts. Still, the data could hint at what’s to come: 24 percent of Eaze’s sales were from marijuana cartridges for vapes in December 2016, and one in five orders included a marijuana cartridge.
Call it the Silicon Valley effect. Northern California, home of the tech capital of the United States, is all about new products. According to Eaze’s data, Northern California had more edible, concentrate, and vape purchases compared to Southern California. Additionally, people who choose marijuana over alcohol prefer vapes.
Now we can all sit back and wait patiently for a marijuana vape pen to make it to the senate floor.
