A new business in San Francisco wants you to know that you don’t have to choose between marijuana and the gym anymore, because the two belong together.
Weed and fitness enthusiast Jim McAlpine will be opening the world’s first cannabis gym in San Francisco this May. It’ll be called Power Plant Fitness (get it?) and members can consume their marijuana at the gym before or after their work out, Outside reports.
No, the gym won’t just be a stereotypical stoner gathering place, McAlpine told Outside, but there will be weed. There will also be cannabis performance trainers to help with weed fitness plans and, eventually, Power Plant will sell it’s own edibles “made for pre-workout focus and post-workout recovery.”
“If you use it right, cannabis takes the things you love and lets you love them more,” McAlpine told Outside. “With fitness that can help get you into the zone, into eye-of-the-tiger mode.”
Weed and athletics isn’t an entirely alien idea. Who could forget the iconic shot of Arnold Schwarzenegger taking a hit off a joint in his “Arnold is numero uno” in the documentary “Pumping Iron”? Or NBA player Cliff Robinson, who was suspended twice for failing marijuana tests and is now starting a “sports cannabis” business called Uncle Spliffy?
McAlpine is partnering with former NFL running back Ricky Williams to get the business off the ground. There are also already plans for locations in L.A., San Jose, Calif., Seattle, Denver, and Portland, Oregon.
Now that’s some high minded fitness.
